How
can I keep myself safe while surfing on the
Net?
Hi! Im going to tell
you how I keep myself safe while viewing the
Internet. First, I always have permission
from my parents and their supervision when I
go online. My parents make a schedule for the
time of day, length of time, and appropriate
areas for me to go while I am surfing. If
someone or something that I see makes me feel
uncomfortable, I turn off the monitor or
close the program, and then tell my parents.
Parents can purchase an Internet filtering
software program to help prevent some of
these events. If problems continue, your
parents may want to contact their online
service.
Next, I never ever give
personal information, such as my name,
address, my parents name, phone number,
or my picture to anyone. Unfortunately, I can
never know who would be receiving my
information. I only chat with my friends or
family, but I know a lot of people go into
chat rooms and make new friends. If you do
chat, you should never agree to meet
someone that you have chatted with, without
first checking with your parents. If your
parents agree to a meeting, make sure you
meet in a public place and bring along your
mother and father.
Lastly, I ask my
schools computer teacher to give me
pointers that will help me stay safe while I
surf the many waves on the Net. I hope this
helps you to practice safe surfing also!
