Media Center News
The Spring Book Fair will be held April
21-30. Any parent interested in volunteering to work in the book
fair please contact Ms. Cross @ 221-7125 X126. Students: The
Sunshine State Book Celebration will be held in the Media Center on
March 27th. Read three of the Sunshine State Books by that date in
order to be invited for the fun, food and prizes!! Check out these
books "under the sun" in the Media Center.
IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR STUDENTS
The next reading deadline for the
Superintendent's 25 Book Reading Program is March 25th. Read 18
books by that date for and reward and to see your name posted in the
atrium. Be sure to turn in your reading logs to your Language Arts
teacher so you will be recognized!
REMEMBER: READING TAKES YOU PLACES!
While the chief purpose of the media center is to extend the learning
experience of the classroom by providing additional materials for
broadening and enrichment, it also aims to develop in Landmark Middle
School students a love of books and proficiency in their use.

HOURS
Monday though Friday 9:15 - 4:20
LOAN PERIODS
Two weeks- Books (Maximum of two books at one time unless special
permission is given.)
Overnight- Encyclopedias, Reserve Materials, Other Reference Material
Library Use- Periodicals
OVERDUE BOOKS
Fines are 5 cents per day with a maximum of $.95 for each overdue book.
Students with overdue or lost books may not check out additional books.
Overdue notices are weekly.
COMPUTERS
The Media Center has four internet computers that run Microsoft Office
XP. Students may use these any time provided they have turned in their
computer use permission form.
BOOK CHECK-OUT/BOOK RETURN
The automated circulation system requires students to present their ID
cards to the media center clerk who checks for overdue books or
outstanding fines. Students must return books to the slot at the
circulation desk.
COPY MACHINE & SUPPLIES
Copies can be made for 10 cents each.
ONLINE RESOURCES
Nettreckker is the recommended search engine for Duval County students
and teachers. You can search by subject area in school (geography,
chemistry, etc) or by keyword. Be sure to Register the first time you
log on. This will create a user account for you and you will be able to
"Save Your Searches."
Reference resources available to all Landmark Middle students are

Culture Grams provides a wealth of information on 182 countries. You
will have access to the latest maps of a region. Also included are
religion, recipes and customs of the people in the region. You can print
maps of different areas and identify the "famous people" from a specific
country. There is also a photo gallery containing more than 600
photographs of different countries.

a host of resources including Current Biography, World Authors, and
Junior Authors and Illustrators. There are more than 140,000 narrative
profiles and more than 30,000 images.

students. It searches not only Encyclopedia Brittanica, but also
