Text Box: Several Thoughts about Assessing Rigor:
Part One

Thought #1  Don’t be afraid to ask students for literal meaning.

In assessing students’ ability to read rigorous texts, make sure that students can restate and summarize the text.  There’s a difference between what a text means to us personally and what the author wants it to mean.  Have students
practice the art of extracting the literal meaning from a text.

Text Box: School Announcements

For early release on Wednesday, April 30th the faculty will be participating in two activities.  The faculty who are returning for Landon during the 2008-2009 school year will be traveling to Stanton for articulation regarding our new program.  All other faculty will meet with Mr. Alexander in the Media Center to complete the FAME survey.  After completing the survey teachers may then work on the lesson plan documentation for Mr. Hafner.

Thanks to Ms. K. Jones, Ms. Kimbrough and Ms. Peacock-Preston for writing and submitting a lesson plan to Mr. Hafner from the first semester.  Mr. Hafner has revised the template and the new directions are attached to the Lion’s Den email.  Please see Mr. Hafner if you have any questions or suggestions regarding this item.

Teacher Appreciation Week is scheduled for May 5th through the 9th.  We will be celebrating this week with a special lunch in the media center on Friday, May 9th.

Just an FYI that we will dismiss students at 11:35 a.m. on the last day of school!  We just got the close of school information from the Superintendent’s Office!

Please let Ms. Cameron know if there are dates which you are unavailable for parent conference in May or June, so that she can schedule accordingly.
