Text Box: School Announcements
Landon will have an “In School Basketball Game” on January 29th during the last period of the day.  The school will follow a regular bell schedule on that day.  Ms. Cummings will be forwarding a duty schedule for this event.

During Early Release on Wednesday, January 24th teachers will be working on FCAT Bell Ringers.  Please plan to work with your department to complete Bell Ringers from now until the conclusion of FCAT testing in March.

Teachers are asked to report in a timely manner to their morning Duty Stations.  A copy of this schedule has been posted by the teacher mailboxes.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out our newly updated website, please make sure that you do!  The website now includes the new school mission, tour dates, as well as other magnet related items.

All teachers who involved in writing portions of the SACS/CASI report are asked to see Ms. Johnson as they have questions.  Please be reminded that this item needs to be completed in a timely manner, so that the school can adhere to the district deadlines.

A reminder to all DCPS employees that the district’s new website, as of February 1st, will be www.duvalschools.org.

We continue to ask that teachers remain at their doorways to monitor student behavior during the change of classes.

Text Box: There’s more to Bell Ringers than meets the eye…..
Using Bell Ringer time effectively is one of the most powerful teaching moments of your entire class period.  Of course, having students enter your classroom and  begin working on the Bell Ringer immediately is a good way of establishing good rituals and routines, and it provides teachers with a moment to take roll and handle individual student needs.  However, there is more to Bell Ringer time than that.  Consider the following about Bell Ringer time:
Bell Ringers can help the teacher do a quick review of what was covered the day before and help them to move into the new instruction for the day in a meaningful way.
Bell Ringers give teachers the opportunity to review skills from previous lessons that are necessary before students can move on to more complex skills.
Bell Ringers can serve as a kind of mini pre-test to help determine readiness before introducing new material.

Bell Ringers are useful ways to review and apply learning strategies to new materials, thereby helping the students learn how to think in different situations.
Bell Ringers help teachers to interact with their students while assessing their learning.
Finally, Bell Ringers set the tone for bell to bell instruction.

Does any of this ring a bell for you?  (Pun intended)
