FBA Concert Band MPA: This is our BIGGEST and MOST IMPORTANT performance of the entire year!!! We made some gains last year, but we must work harder to earn a "Superior" rating for both groups. Concert Band will perform on Friday, March 7, at 4:30pm, and Symphonic Band will perform on Saturday, March 8, at 2:30pm. Please click on the link for the information sheet for FBA Concert MPA.
Upcoming Symphonic Band Rehearsals: Tuesdays--1/8, 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, and 3/4. All rehearsals are from 3:45-5:30pm, and are NOT optional. We cannot be a "superior" band, if we do not have a band at all!!!
Upcoming Concert Band (with Basic Band) Rehearsals: Mondays--2/11, 2/25, and 3/3. All rehearsals are from 3:45-5:30pm, and are NOT optional, especially as we only have 3 rehearsals to combine 3 classes of musicians to create a superior performance.
The Pre-festival Concert on February 19, 2008, has been CANCELLED.
The 2007-08 Band Enrichment Fee final payment for band members and past due payment for flag members was due January 17! To date, only 28% of all members are current with their band fees. Please keep up with the band fee payment schedule as the bills come in during the middle of the school year and not in June when everyone is trying to get their report card. This fee can also be reduced by securing sponsors for the band program, as well as participating in additional fundraisers. On February 15, any outstanding band fees as of this academic year will be turned in to the front office, which may prohibit students from participating in Prom or senior activities (including graduation)! Please see the stand in the band room for the revised amounts.
Please attend our next Band Booster meeting on TUESDAY, March 4, 2008, at 6:30pm in the band room. Please note the new date. Attendance has been abysmal, so please make plans to attend and get involved in your child's education. If attendance is not better, we will NOT have an end of year awards banquet.
Solo & Ensemble: We had a very successful S&E Assessment on February 8 & 9 at Fletcher High School. Our wind and percussion players earned a total of 26 Superior medals compared to only 3 last year!!! Although we did not meet our goal that all our musician's be rated "Excellent" or "Superior" this year, and no rating any lower; 81% of our medals were Superior or Excellent. Our Winter Guard earned a "Superior" rating and qualified for the State Solo & Ensemble Assessment. Joining them at State S&E will be Katie Burrows, who earned a "Superior" rating on a grade 6 Solo. CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for their efforts!
Congratulations! to Katie Burrows for participating in the FBA District 17 Honor Band held at FCCJ-South, January 24-26. The high school honor band was conducted by Dr. Kenneth Williams, DCPS Supervisor of Arts Education.
