Wednesday's with Wise

“Take no prisoners” is how Superintendent Joseph Wise described his fierce commitment to remaining focused on the work that he and Duval County School Board members are doing to ensure student achievement throughout every school in every classroom. From the Teach for America designation to new personnel changes and proposed appointments, Superintendent Wise sincerely and candidly shared his thoughts and views on the strengths and challenges of the past school year and the opportunities that lie ahead. About half a dozen media professionals attended the session on June 7th – the first in a series of quarterly “Wednesday with Wise” sessions.

For one hour, Superintendent Wise spoke candidly and sincerely about FCAT results,  school accountability grade projections, quality teaching practices, civic and community support, and reading challenges. Media representatives were granted an opportunity to ask questions and share with the superintendent concerns they may find of interest to the community. “I’ve been here for 20 months and there’s been some good, positive energy around our work,” said Wise. “We must do all that we can to get kids and our community keenly interested in quality teaching and learning. This forces us to silence any noise that may be an impediment to the growth of our students and community. No city deserves to have the best schools in America more than Jacksonville.”
