Duval County School Board recognizes National Board Certified Teachers
At the monthly meeting of the Duval County School Board, Board members and Superintendent Pratt-Dannals honored more than 80 Duval County Public Schools’ teachers who earned National Board Certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
To qualify for certification, an applicant must currently hold a bachelor’s degree, have completed three full years of teaching/counseling experience and possess a valid state teaching/counseling license for that period of time. Once the application is accepted by the NBPTS, it may take an applicant up to three years to become certified. This process involves the submission of four portfolios, of which three must be classroom based, and completion of six exercises demonstrating knowledge in their chosen certificate area.
“National Board Certification is the most prestigious credential a teacher can earn. Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review,” said NBPTS President and CEO Joseph A. Aguerrebere.
During the presentation portion of the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Cline Auditorium, 1701 Prudential Drive, the following teachers were recognized:
