North Shore Elementary School's Farewell Tour

After more than 57 years, the doors of North Shore Elementary School will close in order to make way for a new K-8 facility.

The school's principal, Deidra McDowell-Sutton is inviting the North Shore alumni and general public to a farewell tour on Thursday, March 27, at 6 p.m., in the cafeteria.

"It is sad knowing that my school will be demolished soon, but I am excited about the history that will be made at the new facility, and am overjoyed to be a part of the district’s only MicroSociety," said McDowell-Sutton.

Beginning this fall, Lola Culver, North Shore and Norwood elementary schools will merge to create Duval County Public Schools first-ever MicroSociety education system at the new North Shore K-8, a state-of-the-art facility.

MicroSociety is based on the premise that children learn best by experience. Students will participate in simulated activities in order to learn the day-to-day functions of the real world.

North Shore will serve students in grades kindergarten through 6, during 2008-2009 and will add one grade level per year until it becomes a fully operational K-8 school.
