JACKSONVILLE
-
Ninety-five
outstanding ESOL students from 35 Duval
County public schools will be honored at the
7th Annual ESOL Awards Ceremony,
held at Englewood High School at 7 p.m. on
Thursday, April 24th. Each
student will receive an ESOL Student
Ambassador medallion.
All
Jacksonville schools were invited to select
ESOL students based on the students’ English
language development, behavior and academic
progress.
The
students come from very different
backgrounds and speak many different
languages, but they all have the same
goals: to learn English, get an education,
and to become part of their new country.
In
addition to the students, two retired ESOL
teachers and one retiring ESOL
paraprofessional will be honored for their
service to the program.
The
program will include performances by two of
the honored students, and the five teachers
who have come from China this year to teach
in the new Chinese language program will be
introduced.
