Students at Venetia, Biscayne and Andrew A. Robinson Elementary Schools have learned the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices in a very creative way: they watched the EXTREME Health Challenge presentation by MicheLee Puppets.
MicheLee Puppets provides puppetry arts performances at schools throughout the state of Florida, addressing topics that are relevant to young people, such as health, literacy, bullying, divorce and environmental conservation. They have found that puppetry and theatre are effective in communicating difficult messages in a compelling and non-threatening way.
The EXTREME Health Challenge program was developed to combat the rise in childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyle choices. It is a 40-minute theatrical production using wacky and entertaining puppet characters that teach students the importance of good nutrition and active lifestyles in an interactive game show format.
Students at Venetia Elementary were also on hand to see an additional presentation: MicheLee Puppets received a $25,000 grant from the Aetna Foundation to help promote the importance of nutrition and exercise to Florida’s elementary school students.
Other schools in Duval County will have the opportunity to see a puppetry arts performance. In mid-April, Michelee Puppets will be visiting Neptune Beach Elementary, Mandarin Oaks Elementary, Ortega Elementary and Sabal Palm Elementary.
