THE ALLIANCE FOR WORLD CLASS EDUCATION

The mission of the Alliance for World Class Education is to advocate for Duval County Public School students, complementing the School Board and Superintendent, by leveraging resources and influence in areas where we can provide the greatest impact in order to create a world class education system.

The Alliance for World Class Education is founded on the belief that a high-quality public education system is fundamental to Jacksonville's future and is committed to playing a key role in strengthening that important resource. As a group of business and civic leaders, The Alliance has made a financial and strategic commitment to improving public education in Duval County.

Our focused agenda is based on the following core values:

Professional Development
  • The Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership opened in February 2002 as a symbol of the Alliance's commitment to quality professional development. More than $4 million were raised and matched with state dollars to build this state of the art facility designed to enhance the skills of all education professionals. The Alliance will continue to partner with The Schultz Center to provide outstanding enrichment opportunities.
Principal Leadership
  • Partnership to Advance School Success (PASS) is a set of hands-on partnerships between a business CEO and a school principal to promote and enhance principal leadership. The vision of PASS is a school that has a principal capable of leading his/her staff and community in the creation and maintenance of a truly effective school that has, as its first priority, the continued enhancement of student performance.
Organizational Effectiveness
  • The Management Assessment Project (MAP) resulted in a report issued on the Duval County Public School District by the Council of Great City Schools, a coalition of 60 of the nation's largest school systems, in September 2002. This report is an outcome of a collaborative project with the Alliance for World Class Education, the School District staff and the Duval County School Board. Funded by the Alliance, the project goal is to provide the Superintendent and the Board with recommendations that could help the central administration become more efficient, cost effective, accountable and supportive of the success of all schools.
Teacher Recognition
  • The EDDY Awards, a premier black-tie celebration for all the Teachers of the Year in Duval County, is hosted annually by the Alliance. The Alliance is committed to recognizing and rewarding outstanding teacher performance. In addition, other strategies to recruit, attract and retain the best and brightest in the teaching profession will be implemented during the year.
