The Alternative Education Programs and Behavioral
Support Department encompasses a broad range of support programs and activities which play an integral part in the school district's efforts to provide optimal educational experiences for every student. The primary purpose of
our department is to eliminate barriers to wholesome school adjustment and assist school personnel and parents in developing the maximum potential of all students according to individual needs and ability. While all students benefit to some extent from Student Services' programs, the primary focus is directed toward assisting those students who exhibit problems traceable to social, emotional, physical, and developmental conditions which impede the learning process.

The social workers serve as an advocate for the student and the family in finding solutions to problems which adversely affect students' adjustment in the home and school.

Duval County Public Schools' Education of Homeless Children and Youth program is entitled "PROJECT ACCESS". The primary goal of PROJECT ACCESS is to ensure that barriers are reduced or eliminated so that homeless children and youth enroll in school, attend regularly, and succeed in educational opportunities.
Teen Parent Center:

Provide day care, transportation, and health/social services to teen parents to help them complete school and become self sufficient.

The Hearing Office conducts disciplinary hearings for referred students and parents, and makes recommendations to help maintain a safe and secure school environment for learning.
