Opportunities for professional growth for the educational community in Duval County are both numerous and varied. Virtually every department and every school within the district is involved in some aspect of training.

The mission of the Professional Development department is to provide support for the growth and development of teachers, principals, district staff, and administrators to increase their knowledge and skills that will lead to improved student performance. The programs for which the Professional Development department is responsible include:

  • District Training Calendar: a schedule of district workshops disseminated to schools and district offices.
  • Teacher Induction Program: a support program for new teachers as they move through their first year of teaching in Duval County.
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program: a program in which non-certificated staff members may be partially reimbursed for successfully completing college coursework.
  • Incentive Pay: a program in which certificated staff members may be reimbursed for successfully completing college coursework which leads to an additional certification
  • District/State/Federal Mandated Programs: workshops are offered to district staff who meet training requirements such as ESOL, Multicultural, Standards, Teacher Induction.
  • - Re-certification: certificated staff members can renew their professional teaching certificates through in-service points.
